Dailies incoming

The other day I heard about something new coming to Singularity, and in the future to Tranquility.

Dailies… As in killing your first npc of the day will get you 10.000 unallocated skill points on that certain character. Which means that on your whole account you can get a total of 30.000 skill points per day. Well, per 22 hours actually.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about this. The reason why CCP is doing this is probably to make sure that more people actually log in each days, just to get this stuff done. That’s the whole point of “dailies”, as they are called in other MMO’s. It’s an incentive for you to log in.

Will this make others log in more often? Yes. Will it help with the numbers or give people something to do? I don’t know, I guess it’s a start. I’m just not 100% sure on the incentive, it will bring bad blood along but on the other hand, 10.000 points per character isn’t a lot. It’s a few hours of training, roughly 5 hours if you’re doing it at 2100 SP/hour.

We’ll probably start seeing flack around this for a while until it’s implemented and everyone will enjoy the so called “free” SP.

Will it get me to log in more often again? Maybe, I’m not sure yet. I’ve been slacking a bit lately due to once more not quite knowing  what I want to do and what I will be doing.

Survival of the fittest

Another day another bit of ISK gained, or lost. Depends a bit on what you’ve been doing.

The past week I’ve been busy trying to make things work corporation wise. Spoiler: it didn’t.

With our recruitment drive we had the misfortune of getting the attention of wannabe spies/awoxers. And they’re easy to figure out, but unfortunately some don’t like the word “No”.

We had that certain someone invade our wormhole with some of his alts. Turns out he had more alts than we thought, we figured we’d bait him out. Have an epithal run between pocos and I’d follow in my cloaky proteus (starting to love that ship). Once he would decloak, I’d grab him and our third guy would come in to help on the kill.

All went well, up to the part where he decloaked, I did too and scrammed him. He was in a stratios. Suddenly, when he reached 50% armor, I had more red on my screen than what there should have been. Turns out, he had about 4 other alts in our system. Instead of one Stratios, I suddenly had 2 Nestors and a Guardian decloak around me. All of which locked me up and started to shoot me.

As a Proteus pilot, I have quite the tank, so it takes ages to kill me with drones, but doesn’t mean you can’t. Slowly moving away from them with my mwd on, I started aligning out.

They could have gotten me if not for the fact that they decided to target my friend’s bomber first. With one less web on me I was able to get out of range and was able to warp of. As you can see below, I barely made it.

EvE definitely gives me the shakes from time to time. This little rush is one of the best things about this game.

Nearly lost it

Unfortunately, despite the fact that we had a lot of interest in our corporation, had people our public channel and making new friends, we screwed up a bit with the whole recruitment drive.

We didn’t really think things true. Not knowing/remembering how much work it would be to actually do all of it. And instead of enjoying the game, it started to become a second job, logging in, logistics, trying to find things to do for corporation members. Note, this was only two weeks in and we already started to hate it.

So last week thursday we decided to disband the corporation and evacuate the hole. It was fun but we bit off more than we could chew once more. Luckily the new members understood and most of them were able to join one of the guys that we got friendly with in public chat.

But no big deal, onwards to greener pastures! I’ll more than likely be joining another wormhole corporation, I just need to decided which one.

Boom goes the ship

I lost one of my favorite ships in the whole game last Sunday, a Machariel. It’s one of my favorite ships because it’s the first one I fully mastered (by doing level 4’s in it shhh) and it’s just super pretty.

Luckily, I also killed a few ships so it kind of evens out.

One of the places I live in with one of my alts, well… my main actually, is NPC null. Stain even (I don’t know names that well but do remember this one, and I’m sure you guys will know better than me).

NPC null is one of the stepping stones into the other null secs, you have stations, there’s a bunch of corporations and alliances, and you don’t need standings to dock, which means you can just put yourself somewhere and be on your merry way, coming back if you need repairs etc. It’s handy and you don’t have those silly Null alliance politics going on. Or people telling you to dock when there’s a neut in local because there’s a bunch of neuts in local almost all the time.

Back to how I lost the ship though. Due to the benefits of null, from time to time other groups decide to come and take up some territory. This is now the case with a few Russian corporations, taking down towers of our allies etc. Sunday was one of those days in which two of our towers was going to be coming out of reinforcement. We made a defense fleet and went out to meet the attacking fleet.

It was fun, despite the fact that the other guys played a game with us, warping off to another ping when we landed, going back and forth etc. We always were able to catch a few stragglers.

Them doing this only meant one thing, they were stalling. Getting a few more people on field. We knew this, and despite knowing this, we didn’t run. Because this was content, and we were getting kills.

So when all of a sudden bubbles started popping up around us, we weren’t that surprised. Our FC kept himself cool, calling out targets etc etc. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to escape the bubbles on time. Despite our logi trying hard to save most of us, they couldn’t quite keep up.

I don’t mind, I had a good time and some good fights. The fact that we now have a few new neighbours only means one thing.

More good fights in the future 😉

Recruitment Drive

A few days ago we started recruiting for our little wormhole corporation. The reason being that we felt a bit lonely.

In all seriousness though, it was time for us to find some fresh blood. If we get more people, we get more content. It’s as easy as that. And unfortunately, being in a wormhole means that an alliance is a bit harder. And as it turns out some people think it’s weird that there were just the three of us.

That said, we’re off to a good start and have had more interest than I thought we would have. Already had a few rotten apples come knocking but that’s normal. With this I mean an obvious AWOXer/spy who started asking us questions about our killboards, alts etc etc.

We have no room for people that take all of this too serious. We know well enough that our killboard isn’t that good but we’re working on it and every day is a new day in which we learn new things.

Like how not to catch an Orca (by pointing it at a high sec hole)

For those of you, who are looking for a new adventure in wormhole life, or want to chat, or even talk about working together. Feel free to drop by our public channel “But it Works”.

Check out our forum post here.

Either I or one of my friends will be able to help you with inquiries. Although more than likely if I’m not around, they’ll get to me through other means anyhow.

Another night of pvp with bombers bar

As most of you who read my stuff on a more regular basis might know, I enjoy joining the occasional Bomber Bar fleet. Not only because of the fact that it gives me something to do, but also because I just love stealthy ops. I adore my bombers.

Yesterday, we (corp mate and I) didn’t have much action in our womrhole so we decided to join a Bomber’s Bar Wolf Pack operation. We met up a few jumps from Jita, and waited for a staging system in which we’d basically be doing a few bombing runs etc.

This system was 93PI-4, also known as Goonswarm Territory. We got a cyno bridge into it from high-sec and got started on getting ping spots etc.
I personally have nothing against the guys, but a lot of people have a “Grrr Goons” mentality that seems to fuel quite a bit of story on their part, which is nice.
Every game needs their “bad guys”, I for one don’t really care, as long as I can throw a bomb or two I’m happy.

The evening started of fairly well, we got our bombing pings, waited for an opportunity, and were given one when someone in the fleet sacrificed himself to get us kills.

De-cloaking when your squadron is called and firing your bomb along with 8 others is quite a sight. I was a bit entranced by it and instead of warping off immediately I stuck around a bit to see them blow up before warping off to a celestial and bouncing back.

Those first few waves gave us a few kills and became the start of an evening of staying around a gate, killing stragglers and getting a response fleet on our asses.

We were camping the gate, having a bubble on it. Killing people that got stuck in it. And one little Goon was quite persistent in trying to get to the next system. Coming back over and over again in her pod.
It was quite amusing to see a bunch of us de-cloak to kill the pod every single time. “The little Goon that tried” we actually voted on letting her through after the fourth time because, if you really want it that bad, we shouldn’t stop that.

After a while we heard that one of our hunters got us something, and we dropped on a Chimera, which was obviously bait. But no worries there, we got out safely after a few shots and started to go back to the staging system.

Turns out that us being gone for a while, gave them the perfect opportunity to muster a response fleet and get on the in gate. Meaning that half our fleet jumped into the staging system only to see a LOT of goons warping in on the gate. Most of them got out safely, and those of us on the other side waited for a cyno to be lit so we didn’t have to use the gate. Once we had eyes on the correct side again we decided to wait a bit longer and try for another few kills. Turns out that’s what they were waiting on, because the moment we de-cloaked, we had a Titan and a bunch of carriers on our asses. They brought in a Ragnarok.

Close enough to almost touch it

Close enough to almost touch it

It was a bit overkill but this was only the second time I’ve seen a Titan up close, and it was the first time in response to a fleet that I was in. So I was a bit proud of myself there. Despite it being mostly because of how well the BB FC did his job, but still.

Despite their camp on the gate we did still get a Vagabond, Cynabal and a bait Sigil.

So all in all it was a good night, I got kills and made it out alive, docking back up in Jita with a smile on my face.

I love Bomber’s Bar for bringing us content like that.

Past few days

It’s been about ten days since I last wrote. Which doesn’t mean that I haven’t been doing much, I just didn’t really find any inspiration to write.

Mostly because I haven’t been doing anything very interesting. Or at least not really.

Wormhole space needs patience if you look for targets, which is something I don’t have, I am not going to wait on a site or stare at a hole for hours on end. No way will I submit myself to doing that.

So I do relic sites or combat sites. Scan down holes in the chain, move from one point to the other.. Whatever I can do to keep me occupied.

I’ve been trading a bit though, and I made myself a bit of a profit in the past week. Nothing compared to what I see other bloggers get. Not even close, I wish I did, I’m actually jealous of them doing that but also glad that they know what they’re doing.

Because in general, I don’t really know what I’m doing, I just get lucky. Last Tuesday I didn’t really make use of the Skill Extractor/Injector trading. In hindsight I probably should have done so but I didn’t. I did however make about 600m profit in station trading by noticing a bit of a price change happening on one of the items I trade in. So that’s nice.

Speaking of the injectors and extractors. I have read the opinion on these of lots of people. Some hate them, others applaud them, and more are neutral towards it.

I am neutral leaning towards the positive side of them. This has mostly to do with the fact that I do use the character bazaar. I used to want ISK, so that I could use it to buy a character suiting my skill need, I wanted to fly everything out there (as long as I could afford it). I have since then gotten off this sentiment and even got quite attached to E’dyn. However, this does not mean that I would not pay ISK/Euros/Whatever currency you have. To get a bit of a boost in my skill points.

I have an industry alt with more than 3million in SP in mining. I haven’t mined in years, and I’m not going to either. So I got myself 10 extractors, extracted it all and gave it to my wormhole alt. I know that due to doing it like this I have lost about 1m in SP, but honestly? I don’t really care about the loss, because I didn’t use it anyhow, and now, I used that SP that was never going to be used again. To perfect my Tengu skills and to train up my Proteus skills. Meaning that now I can not only do more damage in a Tengu, I can actually fly a Proteus. With just a tiny injection of skills.

Running Sites Tengu“So pretty”

I shouldn’t look at them too much though. They’re a bit of an addiction. I get why, I do. And if I allowed myself, I would buy injectors. But luckily I don’t like losing ISK. So we’re safe from doing that. For now

W-space is agreeing with me

Wormhole life is agreeing with me. Not only am I getting better at scanning, and I’m also finding new things to do.

The other day we had a slight problem with one of that day’s neighbours. Well, not really a problem, more like the fact that we were too scared to move.

We had a C2 exit into our own hole, and turns out that this C2 was occupied by none other than Wingspan.

I have all the respect for these guys, I have read Chance’s guide at least three times already and even thought about joining at one point, but I never did. Because I tend to push things towards the future saying “One day” too often.

Anyhow, seeing that there’s 3 of us, and about 500 of them. What with them being used to wormholes, being in bombers and what not, we decided to just leave sites alone and go out for a little roam.

Our high sec static was really close to Null so we went to Syndicate. I went to Poitot for the first time ever, did you know. That Poitot is the only named system in Syndicate?

Despite there being only three of us in fleet and on TeamSpeak, I heard that sentence a few times.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to catch much on our little roam. As is null life, most people dock when they see neutrals. And the few targets that we could have had, well they would have kicked our asses. We didn’t really want to attack someone in a battleship with just an interceptor and two bombers.

On our way back we noticed someone doing data and relic sites. I still had probes on my bomber, so in the system over, I scanned down the only cosmic signature. It was a relic, and we decided that I would stay there cloaked, while the two others would both wait in another system.

A few minutes later I see a Helios on scan. He warped to the site and warped off again, only to come back to the bookmark.

I guess he was checking if the only other person in system was doing the site. I wasn’t.

Little did he know that I was there, cloaked up, waiting for him to do just that. As soon as he warped on top of our bookmark I told our interceptor to jump in system and warp to the bookmark.

A few seconds later the Helios was scrammed. I guess he must not have thought an interceptor on D-scan would hurt him, seeing that he didn’t see any probes. How wrong he was.

We killed him as soon as the third of our little party got in on the kill. A few seconds later our interceptor pilot was laughing his ass off.

This little Helios, was carrying a nice little reward. OP success. A huge success seeing as this was our first roam ever and we figured that we would either die or not get any good kills.

The loot is currently being sold in Jita and the ISK from it will be put into our new, budding SRP program.

Like I said, wormhole life is starting to agree with me.

First day in our hole

Two nights ago (Thursday on Friday), we officially moved into our own little wormhole. It took a while to anchor and online the tower, to set up the guns etc, but we finished around 2am. So all in all, a good night.

So yesterday was our official first day in our own little hole in space, our own little C2. It was a good day, a fun day, and content was had.

Not only, did we get our first official Corporation kills in the hole, we laughed a bit, and we made some ISK doing sites.

My little PvE Tengu

My little PvE Tengu, she’s a beast

I’m not sure if we’re going to top yesterday, I’m pretty sure we hit a peak there somewhere. That was one of the jokes that was made on TeamSpeak.

It started out, when logging in, with seeing a little Cheetah on scan. Nothing special, I tried tracking him down and failed there. When I was checking out one of our statics I noticed him warping back to the wormhole and off he went.

That could have been our first target, but alas, that didn’t happen. A few minutes later I noticed a Venture on scan. The same guy, had reshipped to a Venture, he was coming to mine our gas! Targets!

I told my friend and we were getting ready, I’m 90% sure that he wasn’t checking out D-scan because he must have seen us reship into a bomber etc (Literally only cloaky ship I got in there atm that isn’t a scanner)

I tracked him to a gas site and I was slowlboating my way to him cloaked. However, my friend couldn’t curb his enthusiasm and he warped to me, in his Heretic, while I was still 40km off the venture. The plan was for me the scram him, so we could also catch his pod with the bubbler. Unfortunately, he uncloaked me and I guess the guy was paying a bit attention because warped off into the sunset, never to be seen again. We miserably failed on scoring our first target. I will not let him down for this.

Half an hour later, while we were scanning down our sites, I suddenly noticed an Astero on scan. This guy didn’t rename his ship to something else so I could check out his Zkillboard, he already lost an Astero once, maybe we could let him lose another one.

Queue me training to D-scan his position, only to realize he was in a signature that we hadn’t scanned down since it arrived about 5 minute earlier. Good job on us there.

My friend took out his combat probes, and well, the Astero wasn’t paying attention to d-scan because he could pin him down. We warped in our cloakies to the site, and 26km from the Astero….

My friend de-cloaked due to one of the collideable objects in the site. The Astero noticed us, and warped off. Talk about anti-climax right?

Again, will not let him live that one down.

As you can imagine, I thought that would be it, the Astero wouldn’t come back. I was wrong. Imagine my surprise when 10 minutes later the same guy popped up on D-scan. He was in a relic site, and this time, we did have it scanned down.

I warped to the site, stayed away from the collideable objects and when I was 20clicks off, I de-cloaked, scrammed him, and my friend de-cloaked his ship and then warped in his Herritic.

Turns out, bombers aren’t that good to kill frigates. It took us ages, but, we got him, and the bubble made sure his pod didn’t escape.

I’m 99% sure that if he took out his drones, he could have killed both our bombers. Those things had no tank. But I’m also pretty sure that he panicked and just wanted to try and get away from us.

First kill! Yay us!

We had a static not far from Jita, which we wanted to use to bring in some more ships. And while my friend activated the hole on his Occator, he had travel control happen to him, and after that a static close.

I warped to the hole to see if it was still there, it wasn’t. There was however, a Heron, which either just got in, or wanted to go back to high sec and had the wormhole collapse right in front of him.

I don’t think he saw it coming, he definitely didn’t see me coming. I scrammed him, told him I’d get him home and then let our newest hole-mate warp in on his drake to get in on the kill.

Turns out the pod was worth about 200m. In a 41m Heron, that was an odd choice.

But we got a few kills out of it, I’m super happy with this move, and definitely looking forward to what else might happen.

Round two, start.. Preparing

Little over a year ago, me and a friend of mine tried to settle in a C4 wormhole. We failed, but it was fun.

In the past few days we got to talking again. He had joined a C5 corporation but still felt the itch to settle in a lower class one. Which brings us to yours truly.

I’m enjoying myself in the Null sec corporation I’m in, however, I have other alts. Alts without a purpose, they are just sitting in shiny ships in Jita or Amarr or whatever other system I logged them out in last.

Which brings us to another little plan that has been forming up and coming to closure. We’re going to try out another wormhole adventure. But this time! We won’t be going into a C4, no we’ll be settling in either a C3 or a C2. Since that’s a bit easier to run sites in solo without having to scan more exits, pay a LOT more attention etc. etc.

We’re currently busy scanning down holes, checking if there’s any activity in them, checking out the planets etc. etc.

Once we find a hole to live in, the move will start. I’m looking forward to starting another adventure in w-space. I have tried before, I have failed, but it was a lot of fun and that’s what matters. And if we can make some more ISK in the process, well, that’s even better isn’t it.

While doing all this I’m also training up an alt as a jump freighter pilot. This was done with the idea that it would make things easier for me to start a little Null sec trading hub in my new home system.

This freighter pilot will also be used as a bit of a service for the wormhole, so two birds, one stone kind of thing.

I just need to learn how it works, but I’ve got Singularity for that, once the skills are trained at least.

Now to figure out if I want to keep producing T2 stuff or if I’m going to be giving up on that. The profit on some of the stuff I made has literally dropped 80% in the past few months, on some things even going as far that the price to sell it, is the same price as the resource cost. Something I’m used to when talking about ships but never about components.

We’ll see what happens, the good thing is, I still have a few other sources of income and I just keep expanding my little empire.

Learning to scan

Every day that you learn something new, is a day that’s not wasted. Or so I’ve been told.

Today I learned about Ghost Sites, more specifically, I learned that they can get me killed. How you ask? Well, one of them got me killed.

A long time ago I bought myself an Astero, this was to be a ship I could use to scan, and still defend myself in. I never really used it much until yesterday, when I decided to scan our pipe a bit, looking for wormholes and meanwhile doing relic and data sites.

I was doing ok. It was the first time I ever did sites so I was learning how the mini game works and all that. And as you might have read in previous posts, scanning something down takes me a while. So time was passing by rather nicely since it took me ages to pinpoint the signatures.

After a few relic sites I found a data site, little did I know it was a Ghost one. Those of you that know what Ghost sites do, already know what obviously happened to me.

Thos that, like me, have no idea what Ghost sites are all about, well. As it turns out, when you warp into a ghost site, a hidden timer starts. When it runs out, rats will come, and shoot everything in the site, and warp out again. I did not know this. So I’m just hacking the first cache, clicking the nodes, when all of a sudden I see a warp scramble icon popping up.

I checked local, wondering what the hell was happening, there was nothing there, I switched through my tabs to see if there were rats, didn’t see any of them. By this time I was in 50% shield, something was shooting me and I had no idea what.

By the time I realised I must have missed something, or done something wrong, the tower next to me blew up. And all of a sudden I’m in a pod.

I quickly went back to my home base, reshipped and went back for my own wreck. There was 60m ISK of loot in there so I could recupurate some of my loss.

It’s funny because I let zKillboard use my api to automatically update deaths and kills. And for some reason the tower blowing up counted as something I did to myself, I guess it sorta is. So now I have a kill/loss of myself on there.

I now know better and will keep my eye out for the site name. I’d rather not lose another ship to my ignorance.
