Gamescom 2015

I went to Gamescom Cologne the other day. The first time I went was two years ago, I didn’t actually have the best time back then but that had a lot to do with someone that joined us back then who actually hated being there the moment we set foot in the halls.

Forward to a few months ago where I decided to give it another shot when a friend from work asked me if I was going. Figured why not and bought tickets for me, my sister and my friend. Along with a few other friends from work we would go in a group.

Yesterday was that day, got up at around 7am, prepared for a full day in Germany 200km’s from home, got in the car and started on our little road trip.

The drive was nothing special and around 3 hours after waking up we were in Cologne at the parking spot we booked beforehand. This was done because a few people who went last year warned us that it took them a few hours to find parking.

In place my friends had to fix their costume, one in Ash Ketchum and the other Katarina(Can be seen in the gallery if you scroll down, she put a lot of effort in it and I think it turned out quite nice) from League of Legends, she still had to do her make-up so that took a few minutes (the scar etc) and off we went.

I didn’t take as many pictures as I should have, but most developers made a huge deal out of merchandising and there was a lot of trailers, statues etc and if you felt like standing in line for two hours or more you could play a game like Fallout 4 or Just Cause 3,..

Despite me really looking forward to games like the new Fallout, Just Cause, Dishonored, etc. I didn’t feel like standing in line so I skipped those and just went from booth to booth, checking out other people playing and grabbing a few free goodies along the way. My haul this year was smaller than two years ago but I was able to grab two t-shirts (one from Wargaming and one from World of Nerds), a little bag with a hashtag print on it and an alpha code for Total War Arena along with 20k in gold for the game. Not bad, but could be better.

The Blizzard stand was huge, and I checked out their cosplay contest and couldn’t help but be amazed at the time people spent on their costumes (pics can be found lower).

All in all I spent about 8 hours walking around Gamescom with my friends and had a good time doing it despite the mass of people there, I saw games that I’m looking forward to and I saw other games that I didn’t know that existed but looked cool.

I also bought an awesome shirt that when you take a picture of it, changes print.

All in all I had a good time, saw a LOT of awesome cosplay, and might just go back next year. Albeit with more preparation.

Stranded in a wormhole

In the life of a wormholer, there comes a time, where you go inside a hole, and forgot to check it’s life.
That is what happened to me a few days ago. I decided to log onto E’dyn again and wanted to do some scanning. Or at least check if I was still able to scan things. So I went into a hole that was scanned from our Home system and didn’t look at the time.
Only about 20 minutes after going in I was asked in chat if I knew that it was ‘End of Life’, obviously, I did not.
After going back to where I came in I noticed an absence of any hole, meaning that it collapsed after I came through. Good thing I had my scanner with me.
It took me about 2 hours to find my way out of the wormholes. Not because I didn’t get any connections out to Low, High or Null. No, only because, I actually suck at scanning.
Pinpointing a system takes me ages, and I’m not sure if it’s skill point related or just because I’m terrible at placing my probes but it’s not a fast process.
I’m currently parked in Amarr, after being able to get out in a low sec system and taking 20’ish jumps there. I needed a place to spin and buy things while wondering if I should train my scanning, or just set other priorities.
Oh, and in case you haven’t noticed yet, I’ve had a little domain change. This site is still hosted at blogspot but I’m currently working on creating something a bit “bigger” as I am not just playing EvE and have been thinking about putting down my thoughts on other games somewhere too. So I bought a domain, some hosting space, and am now in the process of doing the actual design.

New idea

I decided on starting up a new blog, bigger than the one I have about EvE Online, you can check out the link up top if you don’t know about it yet. I will be writing about the games I play on here.

Be that an MMO like EvE or a shooter like Team Fortress.

Whatever I play or do that’s gaming related, will come on here. Written on a best effort basis.

Currently busy deciding on the look of the site and actually providing some content for the future.

“Do you wanne build a moon base”

I’m sorry if you now have a certain ‘Frozen’ song in your head… Ok no, I’m not, I like the songs, most people do.

Anyhow, these past few months I haven’t done much industry wise, but a friend of mine asked me if I was interested in his latest little scheme. I told him I had to think about it after his explanation and the more I started thinking about it, the better it seemed to sound.

Basically, I was asked if I wanted to join him in null sec with my indy character and start moon harvesting with him, and slowly but surely, start on our own little super/titan building process.

I’ve always wanted to build titans but not on my own, so if this thing actually happens, I’ll be a few steps closer to my goal. Along with the fact that I’ll be a bit more active again. So win/win situation! Unless we lose a few freighters, that’d make us go back to square one, but I’m being positive here, I can do this!

Waiting for the Queue

Every time I log onto my one other combat character, I check her queue. I do this because I decided to train her into a T3 just in case I wanted to get her into a wormhole again. Last time I played with a friend in a WH it was awesome to have two characters, one on each screen, helping out myself and my friend. The two of us had four in total.
I’m actually in a wormhole now, as I stated before, but unfortunately I haven’t really done anything other than the first day that I joined. I blame myself, EvE is a game where you need to create the content and not wait for content to come your way.
What with me playing other games too, I just didn’t feel like spending time in EvE. This also is reflected with me not stating here much. (Blame ARK, riding dino’s is just so damn awesome)
Still, the fact that I’m not logging in every day, and that I’m not writing as much as I used to or as I should, doesn’t mean I’m not doing things for the game.
A friend of mine has started again since now that he’s back from holidays and no longer has any exams he has some time again, so I might just be logging in more often again if he does. The game is always more fun to play when you have people you know playing it. And I’m not much of a TeamSpeak person to start getting to know my alliance members. Which is another shame on me I guess.
Usually when I log on TeamSpeak it’s on my own server to talk with one of my good friends when we play a game of League of Legends or do some GTA: Online together, nothing more nothing less.
For bombers bar I just log in to hear what’s going on and what’s expected but almost never do any small talk, it’s just not how I am.
Anyhow, I’m not dead! Just, waiting for the queue.

“Eve is boring.”

Those are the words a friend of mine used the other day while we were on Teamspeak. And, I can’t really blame him for using those words. Because for some, if not most people who try EvE, or even play it, there will be moments of intense boredom.

Mostly because in EvE, you create your own fun. I play and have played a bunch of MMO’s with said friend, and EvE is one of the only ones that he disliked from the start. Because there’s no goal except for the one you create for yourself. In games like Wildstar, World of Warcraft, .. You go to maximum level and then gear up to get stronger. In EvE, you can’t rush to “max level” there isn’t one. You can’t skill up fast, because everything happens with the queue, and you sure can’t queue up for battlegrounds because PvP can be everywhere.

I have to admit that I myself have gotten bored in game too, but I keep myself subbed because I don’t want to lose the precious, precious queue time. I don’t have to log in to “get better”. I can still do my industry without being logged in for hours, I can still skill up without having to log in for weeks on end.

But this is not a game for those people that want an easy experience, those that want things on rails, to be told what to do.

Sure there are corporations out there that will gladly use you as cannon fodder and tell you what you should do, but is that really fun?

EvE is only as boring or as fun as you yourself make it. Go out there and explore different bits of the game before putting a label to it.

You might just be surprised on what fun you’ll have. I know it sometimes still surprises me

Queue up

The problem about having multiple characters across multiple accounts is that after a while, you forget where you were going with them, and have no idea what to train.

I currently have 4 characters I use on a regular basis, two of them are for manufacturing and two are combat. One of which is in Thera in a stealth bomber just because, and she’s been training for mastery of them for months. My other, is me, or my avatar. I train around in multiple combat ships so that I can be of use anywhere.

My problem now is that I have no idea what I should train my indy character for. I’m interested in capital production but will probably never get there and other than that I just create the same things, over and over again, she’s been maxed in that kind of production and invention so right now I’m wondering “What’s next”.

The fact that I’m wondering about it also means that maybe I don’t need a third account, and I should just ship her over to the other account with the stealth bomber and my other manufacturer. It’ll probably save me a few bucks a month, it’ll just cost me plex. Something I dislike to spend. Or 20 bucks.

I have 10 hours left to decide.

And in other news, I found a new wormhole corporation, I talked to them a bit and decided that they seemed like a fun bunch, as of the day before yesterday E’dyn is floating around in a wormhole again.

I spent my first few hours in it exploring again, going through a few holes, and scanning down a few others. The reaction time of my new corps mates is amazing. I scanned down a LS hole and when I jumped through it there was an Omen on the other side, I told them and a few seconds after we had 5 people around the hole. Too bad the omen jumped off, it would have been pretty awesome to have a kill in my first few hours.

But I’m sure other opportunities will arise. There’s plenty of time for that.
I just need to start moving more ships inside

What’s this

I noticed something new when I logged in the other day. Some kind of achievement system.

I’m not yet sure what exactly the use of this is, but I’m guessing it has something to do with the Aura revamp that I’ve heard about.

Other than me noticing something that may or may not be new, I also spend a lot of ISK on my manufacturing again as wel as on PLEX.

Seeing that soon two of my accounts will be running out I’ll be using PLEX to start paying for my eve time. Seeing as this was always one of my goals when playing the game. A goal that I never went for because I also liked seeing ISK. Silly me. Have to admit, that my eyes went a little big bigger when I noticed the current price for PLEX. If I were to sell the ones I have now I’d have a LOT of profit, but I kind of need them too. A sword that cuts on both halves.

I’ve been thinking about the wormhole I was in for way too much too. Time to go search again, I really want to go wormholing again. Maybe I should just find a C2 to settle in if nobody will have me.

Effort vs reward

Despite not logging in to the game for more than an hour per week in the past couple of weeks, I’m still making a profit ISK wise. Which is always a nice thing to see. It’s not much but it’s enough to keep me happy. Especially if you consider how little time I spent setting up the orders for this.

Some people enjoy looking at the market and deciding what goods they need to buy and sell in order to make a pretty big profit. I on the other hand, am one of those guys that would like to see more isk, by doing as little as I possibly can.

Due to this I will never be super rich, but will more than likely have enough isk to do whatever I’d like to be doing at the time.

Two months ago I put up about 10 different buy orders, some for PLEX, others for Datacores. At the time I bought about 15 PLEX, which I sold last week at a “profit” of 100million each. Which is not bad at all considering I’m not spending that much time in game.

Same for the datacores, buying them at around 15k and selling those for around 25k also made a nice little profit. All of this took me just a few clicks in game and a few weeks of waiting out of it.

This just goes to show that if you have the patience to wait, you can make a nice profit on the EvE market. Unfortunately not many people have that, most want a quick turnaround.

I guess the fact that I’m still looking for people to play the game with has its advantages: It takes me longer to put things on the market and most of the products I bought a few months ago are currently more expensive.

I do admit, that if you start out, the market can seem strange, and you do need a bit of ISK to get started. Years ago when I first started, I wanted ISK fast, and the fastest way to do this was buy a game time card and sell it.
I’ve done it before, if I had to I’d probably do it again.
The time it would take someone just starting out, to earn that amount of ISK, is too high. While it only takes me about an hour at work.

At that time, and now I look at it as a win-win. Because not many people like grinding for hours on end just to get enough money for a ship. And I’m one of those people too.

Like I said earlier, I’m kind of lazy.

Searching for the right one

The search for a new corporation to join continues. And it’s not going very well.

I’ve found a few that I might be interested in, but some are not responsive when trying to talk in their public channels, and others have a strange recruitment process that takes way too much time to bother.

Speaking of these kind of processes, I get why some deem it necessary, but why make it so complicated. Just ask people why they want to join and their character API, if you have doubts ask more. I’ve had to fill in tons of questions about both my personal life and eve life in some of these and after a few I just gave up and moved on to the next one.

Same goes with the API keys. Please do not ask me to provide a full key for my trader. I’m already admitting that I have an industrial/trader character to make my ISK, don’t even think that I will be providing you with a full API key.

Although I can understand that corporations need to be protective of their surroundings, especially when in a wormhole, but sometimes these things make people (me at least) just throw away the virtual application and search for the next one.

Which is a shame, because there was one corporation that seemed promising but it just took them way too long to answer my questions and even my application that I’ve given up on them.
On to the next I guess.

At least I have GTA V again to have fun with. It came out on PC last Tuesday and I’m doing the online part of it for the first time with friends. I’ve played it on PS3 too, but the PC version is just WOW.
