Fear of the unknown

The one thing that stops people in EvE from trying out new things, is the fact that they’re afraid of what might happen if they get out of their comfort zone.

I’ve been part of that certain groups for quite a long time so I know how it is. You want to try new things, but are afraid of losing a ship, or just not being good enough for something.
And that’s a shame, because in genera EvE has so many fun things that you as a player can do, all you need is to try it.

I used to be afraid of wormholes/null/.. Well basically any zone that wasn’t high sec, thinking that as soon as I were to step out in lower security space I’d get my ship destroyed in seconds.

How wrong I was, turned out that in null sec the people there are afraid of neutrals, and in wormhole space nobody really knows you’re there until you bump into them. Being on purpose or accidentally (I’ve had both sorts happening on a few trips in the past)

Low sec.. Well that’s another story, most people like a fight and they wouldn’t mind going after you, but most of the time when traveling you won’t have much worry from pirates because if you go from gate to gate you’re pretty safe. Although don’t think I’m saying that you won’t get killed, gatecamps still exist and they will kill you if they get the chance, you just have to make sure that said chance doesn’t happen.

The past few weeks I’ve been going in and out of wormholes again, with a not too cheap ship, but I switched my mindset from “Oh no I don’t want to get blown up” to “Fuck it, might as well get it blown up”.. I haven’t lost my ship yet, but I’ve had a few close calls.

Still itching to join a wormhole corporation though, but yet to find one that isn’t too serious about losses, and yet serious enough not to have them happen due to stupidity..

Which is not an easy thing to find.

A shame that most people I knew in game stopped playing, I had fun two manning a C4, but we could have used a few more people in order to survive.

I’ll figure it out sooner or later

Until then,

Gotta catch them all

A catchphrase that most people know, and those of my generation grew up with. This phrase is why EvE has been put on semi-hold for the moment, I’m doing my inventions and that’s about it.
I currently feel too lazy to stock up on manufacturing goods and sell them. All because I decided I wanted to catch them all again last week.

Pokémon is one of those things a guy my age (26 if you must know) grew up with. There was the show, there was Pokémon Red&Blue on gameboy and there were the trading cards that we played with as kids. Although at the time I just went “I have pickachu, he’s stronger than yours now you have to give me your card” .. Let’s just say that I had no idea how the game was played and got a whole bunch of cards because of it because none of my friends back then knew either.

The last time I played a pokémon game was Silver on the Gameboy Color.. That game came out 14 years ago, which when I think about it it makes even me feel a bit old. Despite there being readers who are probably my senior by many a more years.

Due to the fact that it’s been so long I decided to try it again, I bought a Nintendo 3DS, got myself Omega Ruby and am currently hooked on Pokémon and the system behind it with EV’s and IV’s and the breeding and whatnot. It’s a lot more complicated than how I used to play it but that’s ok, it’s a challenge and pretty random sometimes.

My girlfriend saw me play the game too and for the first time since we met, she decided that she wanted to play a game with me. Not only has this never happened, she even bought a 3DS and Alpha Sapphire. So we spent the last few days in sofa’s, bed,.. Playing Pokémon.

I’m sure those of you who have girlfriends that don’t play games can understand the way I feel when mine decided she wanted it too. Although when my reasons to play are for nostalgia, hers are because the few pokémon she saw on my screen were; “Super cute” … Women..

Meanwhile my blueprint copies are chugging along, slowly being invented into their T2 equivalent. I’ll probably buy a few billion in material tomorrow, to keep me going for a few weeks.

On the move

I did a lot of jumps last night before heading to bed.

I’ve been looking for a corporation for a while now with a friend of mine, either to go back to wormholes, or have a look at Sov Space.
Yesterday our search came to an end when we(well my friend first) decided to join a null sec corporation. So I spent the last of my evening before I headed out to bed last night, jumping down to their staging system in order to start figuring out what’s different in sov space null today;

From what I’ve seen so far the corporation seems an easy going and fun one. Here’s hoping that the CTA’s don’t mess with me too much. But it’s easy to move out anyhow, we’ll see how it goes.

My trading has come to somewhat of a standstill due to the fact that prices of the implants I was buying and selling on one of my alts has dropped quite a bit. If I were to sell them at the price they’re currently at I would be selling them with too much of a loss. So I decided to put a pause on it for now and wait for the prices to go up again.

My manufacturer however is still happily chugging along with her industry jobs. They currently make up for most of my income, with all my manufacturing and trading of the past month I made about 2.2 billion.

Along with the fact that I sold the Tengu pilot again (for 2b more than I bought it last month) I made about 14b in total. So I currently have way too much liquid ISK.

But I started training for capital production, once I get my skills up a bit I’ll be looking into that some more.

A milestone of sorts

A hundred, the number of posts that this blog currently contains (with this included) so this post, is a milestone for me.
I have been blogging for a year and a half now, some of my posts being fun to write, others were written because I felt like I had to put something on here. I’ve had a few people contact me ingame telling me they liked my blog which made me smile, and other people comment on my posts asking why I did certain things.
Like at the very beginning people asking me why I called myself a noob despite having a ton of ISK at hand.
Writing about EvE helped me in figuring out certain aspects of the game and made me into a better player. I am still very much a noob (as my wormhole adventures show) but I’m learning and enjoying what I do in the game, which is what matters.

I spent a long time writing about high-sec and my industry, some of my null sec parts and now wormhole space. There are still so many things to explore and I plan on getting there eventually, it might take some time but I’ll get there.

Thank you, dear reader, for sticking with me. Or hello new reader and welcome to my blog. Some of my posts might be boring but I hope that some of the other blogs will make you smile or at least think about your own time in EvE.

I have no idea what my future in the game might hold but I will try and continue writing about it, as long as there’s one person reading, I’ll be a happy camper.

Now, onto the other stuff!

Last week I decided to dust off my Rens and Amarr traders again, so I’ve been doing some station trading and experimenting with items I used to buy and sell over there.
I’ve had moderate success and made a slight profit for now, so that’s good.

Seeing as I browse reddit from time to time I came across a post from the creator(s?) of Eve-mogul giving people the opportunity for an extended trial of their tool and I have to admit that I’m impressed with it. It’s not really giving me all the options that I might want or need (seeing as I do both trading and manufacturing from a few accounts) but if you’re into trading, why not go check it out.
I’m not sure if they still offer the extended trial but new accounts get 7 days, which isn’t bad either.

As for the wormhole life it’s boring from time to time, but I talked with my friend and we’re looking into joining an alliance, or atleast find a few other people we can chat with. If you, my dear reader, have any suggestions, feel free to shout it out to me. I’m always up to meeting new people!

And once more, thanks for joining me on my adventures.

Why do you even try?

Someone’s been trying to manipulate the sentry drone market in Jita the past week. Prices have been fluctuating between 1.2-1.9m for a Bouncer II in the past few days and the same happened with Curators earlier in the week.

I can’t help but wonder why this person did what he did. More than likely to make a quick profit but in order to do so he/she had to buy every single Sentry drone below his wanted price and then put them up again for way above their normal sell price. That would mean that one person in Jita is currently sitting on a few thousand sentry drones.

The problem with this is, that he/she is not the only one in this certain market. On any given day you can see the prices change fast and stock go (if you camp it) relatively quickly. Which is because drones is something that everybody need and they tend to die quite a lot. If you want to take over a market, don’t do it with something that is relatively easy to make, certainly not something that fluctuates on a daily basis.

I wonder if the person doing it made a profit. I know I did, I still had some drones lying about and decided to sell them as soon as I saw the price change for the better.

Now I can’t help but wonder if Gardes and Wardens are going to be next. Maybe I should stock up on them too…

As for my industry, I’m making a nice profit again by manufacturing. Although I’m not seeing the profit in jEveAssets, this is because I am putting more and more ships and ISK into the wormhole I occupy with a friend. I think I spent about 700-800m on helping with the fuel, a new poco and ships. Which is quite a bit seeing that for now I’ve only done sites ones. Which made me about 60m in half an hour so maybe I should do more of these.

Courier contracts are saving me precious time and ISK (because I’m bound to be blown up) but sometimes they don’t get filled, despite me giving 1m per jump (it’s only 4 jumps people, comon!).

I did try taking Red-Frog or Pushx but they take even longer than public contracts and I do not have the patience or time to wait for them to fill. This is mostly because I still don’t plan enough ahead and usually notice that I’m out of raw material once I want to click “Start” and it doesn’t do anything.

I keep saying that I should change my ways, but we all know that if by now I still haven’t learned to plan ahead enough, I probably never will.

Another new playground

It’s been close to two weeks since my last post. This is partly to blame due to the fact that I’ve been busy and partly because I wasn’t doing much in game.

As per usual I forgot to stock up and been flying back and forth between Jita and my home base to stock up my POS once more.

It’s amazing how fast you go through your resources when you have two inventors/manufacturers running everything. When I think that I’ll last two weeks, I will actually last less than one. This is partly to blame because my math is pretty off and I tend to forget a lot of things.

As for my adventure in wormhole space, well I haven’t actually done too much yet, I’ve ran a few sites which was cool but other than moving ships inside the hole, there’s nothing else to say.

I’m not sure how this will change in the near future because I am currently juggling between EvE and another game.

Last weekend ArcheAge launched its Headstart. And despite all of the server issues and glaring queues, I had tons of fun playing the game. I never did any betas or even alpha despite buying the founder pack but this is because I tend to get sick of most fantasy MMO’s quite fast and I wanted my first experience to be in the live version of the game.

Yesterday was the official launch which meant that F2P players were able to join the servers too. Which in turn meant that I have not been able to play at all yesterday because there was a 2000 man queue on my server and after 2.5 hours of being in said queue there was still 1600 people waiting in front of me.

So I updated my market orders and went to bed. Only to find out this morning, when I wanted to start another few invention runs, that I was out of datacores.. AGAIN!

Cue another Jita run.

I keep telling myself that I should be writing these things down and just put 2-3b ISK in materials. But I don’t like seeing my wallet going lower than it already is.

I should stop thinking like that, you need to spend money to earn money, I just need to learn to spend it on time instead of last minute.

Other pastures

Last week, a friend I made in EvE told me that I should join the corporation he had joined. He’s been talking about it for a few weeks now ever since he moved into Wormhole space and he said that I should try it too. Seeing that it might give me an opportunity to come out with my combat character some more.

Fast forward to Monday and I am accepted into the corporation, all I had to do was get myself a few ships and move to the wormhole.
“Who needs a scout, I can handle this!”

Something that I did yesterday, I bought myself a few frigates, a destroyer and a battleship and spent about an hour and a half moving one ship after the other into the wormhole. It gave me something to do, it even had me thinking about fits. Although I have to admit that it didn’t help me in thinking too hard about them since once I figured I was settled I noticed I had forgotten dampeners and ammo (woops)
“I’m a pretty fly, with a nasty sting”
Joining a wormhole corporation is something that I talked about in the past, I even thought I had joined one before but turned out that they were actually high sec mission runners like myself who happened to have a POS in a hole that they went to from time to time. Which is cool, but not what I wanted. What I wanted was to live inside one, and not just alongside one.

Hopefully my move will allow me to experience this side of the game from close-by instead of just reading about it. It’s scary, because I can’t scan to save my life, but I guess that just means I’ll have to learn.
“Let’s get this show on the road!”

Other than the wormhole move and figuring out what’s next on my list in the new corporation, I will be using this weekend to run a few tests on my industrialist. I’ll be updating my way out of date spreadsheet, to check if I still make a profit (because who counts this stuff psh!) and whether or not it’s more profitable for me to stay in my POS, or if I should just tear it down and start working from a station.

If the prices aren’t too high for my manufacturing and invention I might just tear down my POS and just use the headquarters. Seeing that having a POS means spending 500m a month in fuel. So if the cost of working from station isn’t too high, I can just start doing that.

While creating T2 items I noticed a slight decrease in the market movement of some of the modules I make. Meaning that I’ve been scratching a few of the list in the past couple of days. I still have a few thousands blueprints that I’ll have to invent (holy crap why did I make so much copies of everything) but once those are all done, I’ll be checking which I liked creating the most and, of course, where most of my profits came from.

So plenty to do and figure out for me in the next couple of weeks!

Flying solo, not something for me

In the past few months (give or take 6-7) I’ve been making ISK and spending ISK. Mostly on industry related things and fuel. Due to a certain program called jEvEAssets I can track how much I earned, how much items I have in my hangars, how much all of it is worth according to Jita etc. etc.
This is great to make conclusions on how well or how bad you’re doing. Me, I’ve been doing badly according to this. Not because I’m making a loss, but more due to the fact that I’m not making a profit either.
This is entirely my own fault and I know it. I only log in a few times a week to buy stuff and then don’t use them. I have Battleships both faction and normal ones lying around in hangars that I never even flown except for getting them to a certain system.
My manufacturing, the exact same thing. Where I make a slight profit due to what I make. I “lose” it because of me having to fuel my POS. In general, I have been stuck on 30b since March-April.
All of this, is mostly due to the fact that I don’t have an actual reason to log in more. Other than those 5 minutes I feel like doing it. And this in turn, can be traced back to the fact that I’m playing solo.
In previous blogs I talked about searching for a corporation. But it’s not really working out too well. Also due to the fact that I don’t actually feel like logging in and searching for the right one. I’m just hoping that it will get thrown in my lap.
I dislike solo playing. I started up another well-known MMO again because a friend of mine asked me to play it with him to start again on a new server. The only reason I did this is because he asked me to. It’s a shame he never got into EvE the way I did.
I know for a fact that once I find a corporation, a bunch of people that aren’t too serious about themselves, I’ll have reasons to log into the game. And once that happens, I’ll see my capital go up again.
I just need to find them first.

Safety is relative

It’s been ages since I last got blown up. And never before did something like this happen to me. Today, I got blown up while moving a bunch of stuff to Jita in my manufacturing alt.

I usually fly with my Blockade Runner (Viator), this is because it’s faster than flying an Iteron and I have a cloak. A cloak that I normally turn on, but didn’t this time. It’s only 4 jumps though, so you think: what’s the worst that can happen.

Well today the worst that could happen is me flying around with about 500 T2’s in my cargo and having it shot out of the sky. According to the kill mail the total worth of this guy’s kill was about 700m, give or take a few.

No big deal in itself, but I just really, really liked my little Roadrunner. I made it myself. Now I need to go and make a second one. Although it still stings a bit, seeing as I had decided to use that bunch of items to be the last for a few weeks. Now I need to start on it again.

Lessons learnt, you’re never really safe when flying around. Most people know that, but when you haven’t had any kills or deaths for over 7 months, you get dulled into a sense of safety.

“Rest in pieces”

Overstocking

I am a manufacturer, a producer of goods, goods that people need in order to do whatever it is they do.
Not just any kind of goods either, I manufacture T2 items. A special branch of items that you in order to create them you need to spend time inventing them first.

But what happens when you produce so many of them, that you have a stock so large that it is almost impossible to get rid of them quickly? What if you try and do this anyhow, knowing that it will flood the market.

That’s right, you crash it, and your sale price will go down quite a bit. I currently have too large a stock of the items I produce to put them for sale. This is bad, seeing as right now all of those items are currently sitting in a hangar, being trickled onto the market bit by bit.

And when things are just sitting there, they’re not making ISK, and when you’re not making ISK, you can’t put it back into your production cycle. Which means that right now, I’m producing nothing, other than a whole bunch of T2 BPC’s of the items I currently have an overstock of.

As you probably figured out, that’s not the way it should be going.

I have been creating these T2 items ever since I first started manufacturing, because I started doing this together with a friend who told me what to do when he still played. He has long since stopped playing EvE while I continued his little business.

The production of these things has made me a bit of ISK, enough to have a pile lying around, just looking at me, and screaming ‘Use me! You need to!’ but I don’t really like seeing that number go down, which, as a manufacturer is a stupid thing. Spend money to make money and all of that.

Maybe I should try something new, something that would need me to invest more ISK but get a bigger margin of it.
Right now I invest 500k-1m to get a profit of 1m-3m.. That’s nice, especially seeing I make a few hundred of those items per day.

But maybe I should start seeing things a bit… Bigger?

But I might not be able to do that on my own..
