Another day, another stupid thing to do.

I lost an Orthrus yesterday. One that I should not have lost.

The day started well. My friend took some bait and they dropped a carrier on him. At which point I warped in my orthrus to try and kill the gnosis that was there while pointing the carrier. And he counter dropped it with his.
He lost a Stratios, I didn’t kill the Gnosis. And we also had to run away like little bitches from their carrier because I thought I was not using my Bhaalgorn toon but turns out he was the one in the Orthrus.

Woops. At least we avenged the death of the Stratios.

After that I fucked around a bit with fittings while keeping one eye on local. There was a fight going on. I said “Hey let’s undock our Orthrus’ and go blap a few from afar” he said sure. And we undocked.
At that point a Stork came to our citadel. Here I am, trying to watch 3 screens at the same timen going for it. Bad idea. Very bad idea.

An Orthrus was lost in this engagement. But hey, it’s my own fault, I’m rusty, it’s been a while since I had to kite.

So what do we do after losing one Orthrus? Go back and buy two more of course.

So I fill up my DST with some ships, about 1.4bill worth of ships in total. And start my small journey back.
My friend was scouting, when I hit lowsec he told me the gang of 20 was jumping to the gate I was just about to go through so told me to wait on high-sec side. What did I do? … Jump in of course because why not.

There I am, sitting with gate cloak and about 20 people around the gate. Luckily his tengu uncloaked so they were distracted. At which point I did the cloak warp trick to the next gate, and again and again.
I made it home safely, but damned if I didn’t almost lose another bunch of ISK right there.

Like I said, I’m doing stupid things in Low. But at least I’m having fun.

And in slightly other news. The guys we annoyed, reinforced our citadel.

I finally moved to Low

It’s been a while since I last had an update. Hell during the past few weeks the site was even offline for a bit and I didn’t notice.

But I’m back and I’m in Lowsec, doing stupid things.

Lowsec is new for me. Literally never been there except for passing through. I don’t know anything about the timers, criminal or suspect or otherwise and it’s.. Well it’s all giving new thing for me. Even gate guns are new for me.

So let me tell you the story of our first day. I moved here with a friend of mine, we’re both in our own separate corporations and we both brought a bunch of ships, anchored a citadel and whatnot and ready to just do the things you’d do in lowsec.

We started the day with some smart bombing in Machariels. Nothing big, just two of us doing what we do, killing interceptors and whatnot.

Then we decided to take out our omens and go out for a roam. It would take us through one jump of high-sec but who cares right.

Now, those of you who know the lowsec mechanics may already see what is about to come. I sure as hell didn’t.
One jump before getting into high-sec we saw a floating mammoth. We, trigger happy as we are, killed it and went further along the path we set for ourself.
We come to the highsec gate, get a message stating that we’re now criminals and concord would shoot us but, whatever right. As long as we’re fast enough to warp it doesn’t matter.

What neither of us knew, is that if you have a criminal timer, concord won’t just shoot. No, you’ll also be prohibited from warping. And taking gates.

Well.. Fuck us.

A few seconds and two dead omens later we’re on our way back to our citadel, to lick our wounds.
Lesson learned, not going to happen again.

And this is just the start.

Explosion due to stupidity once more

I lost another ship this weekend. This time it happened due to another person blowing me up, and my own stupidity. Well, just my lack of common sense and staying somewhere for a bit too long while not cloaked.

I’m planning on joining a friend’s corporation in a few days, said friend is setting up a WH corporation with a few other people he knows. Seeing as I have no idea how to scan down signatures, or even use d-scan, I decided to train myself a bit.

So I shipped up in a cheetah, set out to low sec and started to scan down the different sites and signatures in a system in order to train myself some more on the “how does this work” part of it all.

While doing so I found a relic site, and as it turned out, I had a relic analyzer in my Cheetah. So I decided to go and have a look, maybe even get lucky in “hacking” the site.

Not only do I know nothing about scanning, I also have no idea how hacking works… Zero clue whatsoever. So while I was staring at the screen wondering what all those things that I could click meant and why some would lock up after clicking five times, someone found me.

I suddenly saw a manticore pop up on my screen and immediately got locked and scrambled. One volley of torpedoes later and I was warping away in my capsule to the nearest gate.

I learned that I should pay more attention, and definately should not be trying out hacking if I have no idea what it’s all about. Using D-scan would probably not have helped in this case seeing as the manticore was cloaked, but still, it wasn’t even opened.

The person shooting me convoed me afterwards, thanking me for getting myself blown up, he had been in the system for a few days waiting for a kill to happen and told me that I was his first ever solo kill. He was even kind enough to offer me to pay for half of my loss.

I declined this of course, I have plenty of ISK and congratulated him on his first solo kill and patience. I would not be able to just wait for days until something happens.

After doing a few jumps, I got back to Jita and shipped up in a new cheetah. Ready to continue my training.

I need to be ready in a few days, need to be able to hold my own in W-space. Because if nobody’s there to get me an exit, I’ll have to do it myself.

What about wormholes?

Plans, you make them, you break them.

I have so many things in my mind that I’d like to do but I just don’t do them. So many things I want to try out but don’t have the time for them.

A few days ago I was asked if I was interested in joining a Wormhole corporation. Which made me start to think about living in one.

They intrigue me, I love the idea of wormholes, I like the fact that there are no stations and that you need to provide for yourself. And as I said in the past, I’ve actually had a bit of fun in a few already, both PvE and PvP wise.

The one big problem I have with them, is the fact that I’d need to be able to scan. Which is one of the many things in the game that I suck at.

I have the correct skills, all at IV or better, and yet I can’t find anything even if it meant saving my own life.
A while ago I went into null with a cheetah just to check if I could train and get better at scanning. I knew there were sigs, I knew where to find them.
And yet it still took me over an hour before I finally scanned down two of them. Two, out of (give or take) eight. While I know that there are people out there who can do it much, much faster. It’s safe to say that the idea of scanning even more quickly turned into disgust.

This, along with some things I hear about them, and the limited experience I have in wormholes, makes me think that I might not be put out for it.

I just don’t have the patience to scan down things, to wait at a wormhole for someone to pop up. Even to go out hunting for ours through different ones only to get stranded when it collapses behind me. Something we all know happens.

“Someday we’ll be together”

But if not wormholes, what am I going to do? I need to get out of high sec because it’s keeping me down, I’m not actually doing anything and haven’t done so in quite a while.

The answer? Low sec.
The new problem that came from this? “What corporation”

So now I’m going to go and search for a corporation, willing to take me on. Maybe one that’s noob friendly, because I know for a fact that if I go out for a kill solo. I’m going to get my ass kicked and my frozen corps handed to me on a platter.

Let’s see where this path I put myself on leads.

World Cup and EvE-Betting

As most of you know, the World cup started last week. Those of you who have no idea what it is and are blissfully unaware because their country doesn’t really participate in the whole soccer thing: Good for you!

I live in a country that was able to qualify itself, which is a good thing because we’ve been waiting on this for for a few years. Or so I’ve been told since I don’t really follow it myself. But it’s easy to get sucked into the whole atmosphere concerning the World Cup.

Which is why I’ve been actually following it quite closely the last couple of days. Saw a few awesome matches and a few that were disappointing.

What does this have to do with EvE you ask? Well, due to a friend of mine betting on soccer, I figured I could try this too, but not with my hard earned euros, but with ISK.
The fun thing about EvE is the fact that almost everything is permitted, even using your ISK to bet on out of game sports. Some people even make a nice amount of ISK on this, so I figured, why not try this out and see what happens.

I haven’t been using my ISK for anything other than the whole Prospect building “fiasco” so it’s time to make a few dumb arrangments and use it on something silly like gambling.

I’ve put 60m ISK on a few matches and nearly tripled that, so I’m kind of giddy with excitement that I actually made the correct bets. But we all know that I’ll lose it all in a while. But that’s no big deal, 60m isk is easily made in an hour or less.

Next to the betting I’ve been browsing the forum and talking to friends to see what I want to do in the game. I made an alt that I’m currently training into stealth bombers only, since I like flying them. And I’m training my main in the use of interdictors.

I’m not sure yet where I want to go with him but hopefully I’ll figure this out one of these days. Low sec is waiting for me and a friend is trying to get me to come into the wormhole.

Might just take him up on that, although I really, really need to practice my scanning if I do..

Prospecting and going out of my way to get killed

Today marks the launch of a new release for EvE. New things happening, industry wise and others that I don’t really know much about.

Why’s that? Because I only cared about one thing, a new thing to invent. Namely the prospect. In a few hours when the patch goes live we will be able to invent a new T2 frigate from Ventures. I have prepared accordingly and have about 100 Venture BPC’s ready to put in my laboratories when I get home from work this evening. Hopefully I’ll be able to create a whole bunch of Prospects by the end of this week and sell them for a nice profit.

Because that’s what this is about, profit for me. I don’t use the Venture myself and am not planning on using it any time soon. Unless I suddenly feel like going out to get some gas in a wormhole.

Speaking of wormholes, let’s talk about my lack of doing anything that might destroy one of my ships.

Last night I was browsing Reddit like I usually do when I should be asleep and saw an image linked that was rather fitting to what I don’t do.

I would link it here but I forgot to give it an upvote and I can’t seem to find it again. It basically said something along the lines of “What use is having a ship if you don’t take it out for a spin”. Although I do take it for a spin, I never seem to leave station anymore.

So I need a reason to go out and get killed. I need to stop being a ‘pussy’ and go out to low sec in a frigate to get killed a few dozen times. Or do some killing myself but, let’s face it. I’m a noob, so I’ll more than likely lose ships instead of making others lose theirs.

Unfortunately that means actually taking the time to go out. And that might take a while before I can do this. Maybe I should try out a low sec corp, have people to talk to. People that give me a reason to log in on my combat alt, instead of me just logging in on my Indy alt to update a few queues and stuff on my POS.

Plus the fact that I was gifted a key to Wildstar in order to check it out isn’t helping either. I’m AFE (away from eve) too much for my characters good.

Let’s try and change it shall we?

Humble Bundle unite!

There’s a reason why I love the Humble Bundles. Not only does it allow me to buy games I like for next to nothing. It also allows me to choose how much of the amount I want to go to charity, thus making me feel like I’m not spending all of my money just on games.

Yesterday there was a Daily Humble Bundle containing the EvE Online Starter Pack. Despite me having multiple accounts already and having a few on hold, I bought one.

I can’t pass up on deals like that and for little over 3 bucks I got myself a nice starter pack and a skin. If I had paid a bit over 20 I could have gotten a PLEX from it too but I’m not a big fan of paying for my Plexes with cash. I’d rather use ISK for that.

Now that I have another key, to create yet another account, I just need to decide what I want to use it for. I can train something, I can do something.. But what.

Maybe I should finally do roams in Low with a low SP alt. That could get me some fun, right?

What do you think?

Learn by doing

The best way to learn new things, is by doing them. You will not learn how to draw by reading about it, nor will you learn how to set up a Hyper-V server environment with multiple Virtual Machines in it and a full Active Directory structure by reading about it either.

But it helps.

Seeing that my corps is at war, and my first plan on taking out my Machariel and Noctis team went down the drain. I decided to go out to Low and Null sec with my Nemesis, in search of prey.

Let’s just say that I would not be a very good predator. The most I saw in local was 10 people, and I couldn’t find them anywhere. When I jumped to null I came across a few people talking in chat, and after a few jumps I found them parked outside a bubble in between two gates, but three against one isn’t what I would call good odds, nor would my bomb do more than maybe, just maybe scratch their paint.
So I decided that would not be a good idea to try.
Oh hello there, what are you doing?
But I never shot a bomb, and I wanted to learn how they work, so I needed to find a spot to try it out on. After a few more jumps I came into a system with an ice belt. People love ice!
After jumping there, I saw a Skiff warp away, he must have seen me in local and figured I would be there to kill him, must be.. But I was in the belt, and I desperately wanted to shoot a bomb. So I lined up with one of the ice rocks, uncloaked, and watched my pretty bomb fly there.
Oh shit oh shit, get out!

Which, according to most people, was more than likely my fifth mistake of the day.

After reading so much about bombing, I decided to forget everything in the “heat of the moment”. Due to me being impatient I just dropped it and kept looking. It will come to no surprise then, that I got hit by my own bomb, luckily, I survived. But only barely, it was right around the time that it exploded that I had decided to warp away. Leaving me there with my hull barely intact.

At least I learned something, and I did it by doing.

Later that evening I was told about the corp’s wormhole about to close. Having never seen a wormhole close, I decided that I wanted to see it happen, so I took the jumps to the high sec static, went inside and waited on the other side. Snuggling up in my pod and looking at the hole with my cloak on.
If I were high, I would have been staring at this for ages

While waiting for the high sec static to close, we were talking in corporation chat. A call went out for having the “balls” to go out to high and get back in. Seeing that the hole were to collapse any minute, and a bet was made.

I’m still not sure why, but said bet unleashed a little game of double your ISK. We hyper multiplied it, starting with 1isk, and then going 2,4,8,16,… unfortunately I had to call it at 128. I did not have the 402m that I could send to my fellow corps member. Probably a good thing because I doubt that he was able to go to 103billion.

It was a pretty fun Sunday, not only did I fly out in low, I hung out in a wormhole, watching it shimmer and everything. I do think we scared a newbie though. As we were talking there was a flash of the wormhole. And before I knew it there was a bubble up.
Oh gods! Something just blew up in my face!
That even made me jump for a bit because I did not see that coming. Said Cormorant had de-cloaked and probably did not think that would happen either because before you could say “Booh!” the wormhole flashed again.

Then again, if I see a Nemesis, Legion and an Onyx suddenly pop up, I’d be getting out too.
After the Cormorant left, one of us came back in a Myrmidon, you know, just in case. And I said something about not knowing how to bomb, so they told me how to do a run, and try it out on the Myrmidon

I didn’t even scratch the paint

I learned quite a bit today, and it was fun.

I didn’t see the wormhole close though, as I had to work in the morning, I decided to head back out to my high sec HQ. As soon as I docked there, I heard about the hole closing, and it was wonderful.

Oh well, there will always be a next time.

Time equals money

It’s been a busy week for me, and I’ve finally found some time to write things down again. I feel a bit guilty for not writing more blog posts, but c’est la vie. RL always comes before the EVE life.

Speaking of which, I still haven’t found what I want to do, mostly because of the fact that I haven’t been doing much the past couple of weeks. I spent a few hours making undocks in different stations, just because I needed to find something to do and I felt like making these makes my life a lot easier.

So I took a cloaky cheetah, went a few jumps in Low and spent a few hours making undocks. Which gets boring, very, very fast.
What do you mean, this can’t be done faster?

Industry wise I’ve been slacking. Not only have I stopped my invention, I have stopped manufacturing altogether. Not because I want to, but because of time restraints. I don’t have that many blueprints, but I have a whole bunch of BPC’s that I still need to invent. Problem with this is the fact that I haven’t actually gotten myself the data cores for this.
And every time I got to Jita I forget to take a bunch of them with me.
But! The good news is, because of the fact that I just wrote this down, I have put up a few buy orders for around 500 of each data core. So here’s hoping I can get back to that.

I’ve also put up a bunch of buy orders for the materials I use in manufacturing. This ranges from Tritanium to Guidance Systems to, whatever else I need and that I can remember without looking at my spreadsheets.
I’m not sure how much time I will be spending in the game this weekend, but I do know, or at least hope, that a few of those buy orders will get filled.

As for trading in general, well seeing that I haven’t logged on since last Sunday on my trader, let’s just say he’s doing nothing at all. I have just put up 1.2billion in buy orders with only 600m in ISK in his wallet. How I love Margin Trading *grins*.

If, and that’s a big one, they get filled, I can make at least 2billion on this. But that’s a big if. 0,01 ISKers are still the bane of my existence and I’ve had a few days where I just wanted to stop trading, seeing that I’m actually not that very good at it.

I’ve looked into inter-regional trading, but every time I look at those hundreds of possible items, I start to feel like it’s an impossible job for me to make money on it and I close it down again.

Maybe trading isn’t quite meant for me. We’ll see what this current batch says, if the station trading finally picks up, I might change my mind. It’s the weekend, so that means more sales and more buys.

Or at least.. It should

Big Succes .. Sort off?

Today was one of those days where I logged in and actually did something different than just sitting in station, looking at my orders and spinning my ships.

I logged in, and did what I’ve been telling myself to do for a while. Go out on a roam.

Few corporation members were going to go on a BC roam so I decided to join them in a Hurricane I had lying about. Seeing that I am no PvPer at all I had to ask them for a fit for it, once that was done, and after adding a remote repairer I was ready.

It’s been ages since I had to use TeamSpeak so of course that had to update but once I was on it all went fine, my new headset works, everything’s great and I can follow the FC’s commands.
“No! I want to be on top!”

We jumped around a bit, failed to find anything and then came into a system where I saw a Venture on D-scan. As the veterans out there will point out, we did something extremely stupid next.

We split up, and went in search of the Venture, everyone going to a different belt. One of us the top one, other bottom, well you get the picture.

Some might have seen this coming from miles away, I certainly didn’t, and it seemed the rest of the fleet didn’t either. The venture was a trap. Not long after I had warped towards one of the belts I heard the venture was in the top belt and he got pointed. About 1 minute after I heard: “Oh, guys, I think this was a trap” and the fc telling us to quickly jump to top belt. There were about 11 of them waiting for us. Now, all in all we did pretty good, I repaired, I took a few shots, and then I jumped out back out at the command of the FC.

After which I kept thinking: “What do I do?! Am I supposed to go back in, what’s going on?”

Turns out the others got blown up and I was the only one still in my ship. Guess that was because I was late to the party and they didn’t point me as fast as they probably could have.

The roam was not what you would call a success except for the fact that I did go out in low sec in an “expensive” ship. That’s something isn’t it?

After that I went back to the so called market pvp and made a few 0.01 ISKers unhappy. But it’s making my own wallet grow bigger so that makes me happy.
