PvP is starting to grow on me

I started updating orders again, because I’m in need of ISK, and I’ve been too busy losing ships in null sec to get some PvE going. Thus I went to Jita, put up a few buy orders and hope for the best.

Of course, outside the buy orders I’m also doing a bit of PI. As I’ve said in a previous post, PI is a great way for passive income, I currently have a setup of 10 planets across 2 characters in the wormhole which should get me about 700m a month, updating it once a day, and hauling it every other week or so. Which is a nice amount for minimal effort.

Outside the need of ISK, I am starting to feel a need for kills. It was a bit slow the previous 3 days, we didn’t get many targets, but there were a few good ones in the past week. Which is fun, I’m starting to not hate losing ships. And that’s the whole point of all of this.

Today was a bit funny, our nullsec was close to a miner system, so we went there, saw a bunch of procurers on scan and went out to look for them.

We found a few, killed a few, and went out to the next system.

Now, killing a procurer isn’t that hard in PvP ships, finding them when you already killed a few of them, makes things a bit harder. What made it a fun roam was the fact that when we jumped back in the system, just to see if they would come back. We jumped to ore sites, large, enormous, and as soon as I landed, I noticed two of them on my d-scan, coming closer to me.

Not only, did they just wait a few minutes, they warped right on top of me. And my corps mate who warped to another belt, had the same thing happen to him.

We had that happen twice in the same few systems. Unfortunately they didn’t give us a fight. It’s not like we want to kill miners, we want fights. Good fights.

We were hoping that if we caught one and held it for a few minutes they might come and play. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

We did harvest a few tears though.

tears

He obviously didn’t get that we wanted an actual fight. But some people don’t fight, and I get that. It had taken me years before I got into PvP.

I’m doing well, and enjoying my time in the wormhole and the corporation.

Everyone loves explosions

We do, even if you don’t want to be near one in real life, we all love looking at fire. It’s entrancing.

I blew up my first citadel the other day. Well, not just me, we had a fleet of course. But I did not see the explosion coming. I had no idea about it, and it was amazing.

I’ll just let you see for yourself in the few screenshots I made.

I did lose another hound this weekend. I need to stop flying squishy ships, which is why I bought an Omen and a Gila and brought them inside the wormhole. I have a bunch of other ships on my “Get them inside” list but I need to start earning ISK again because I only see my total dropping.

The fact that PLEX prices are way down since last time is not helping at all. I have 11 PLEX parked in Jita that I bought when they were at 1.2b a pop. So that’s currently little over 3b loss just on those. Maybe I should use them to get extractors instead. I heard that they are a nice moneymaker. But that’s for another post.

Enjoy the fire!

Bringing the party outside

One of the little things you learn to like about wormholes is the fact that every day, you’ll have a connection to somewhere else. Somewhere new to explore, meet the locals, and kill them.

The other day was one of those days. Having asked what we should do we decided to fleet up and go on a little roam in our Null-connection. It wasn’t too fruitful, I’m pretty sure we scared off the locals, they weren’t used to meeting new people.

We found a few people hanging around in space but they had a bubble around them or were on their way to somewhere else. A shame, we couldn’t catch anyone to exchange ammunition with.

Luckily that changed on our way back home. Turns out the locals were setting up a little welcome party, to make sure that we knew that we were appreciated, going door to door, wanting to say hi.

They were a bit off our home hole (phrasing?) so one of us decided he’d go say hi, you know, so that we could warp to him and get the party started. They had a few hurricanes, a few drakes etc etc, you know. The kind of stuff I should not be engaging with a hound. Since that was the stuff I was flying with since I only have a few hounds in our citadel. Oh, and a Proteus, I’ll get to that.

Turns out the welcome party didn’t really think about keeping us there, but luckily we did think about making sure that nobody could leave the party sooner (scrams, get it? I’m making it a bit more interesting). Thus our FC decided to bring out his Proteus, because what better way to use an expensive party ship, if you can leave before it gets rowdy.

This made me log on my other account and get in my Proteus too, it had been a while since I flown it, but last time I did I had fun with it.

This time was no different.

We came, we saw, we exchanged ammunition and fireworks. All in all, it was a good day. I’m looking forward to more of these.

Floating corpses

Last week, in order to put some more effort into my EvE Online carreer I joined a wormhole corporation. I’ve got some experience in wormholes and have had nothing but good memories of my time in them. Thus me finding a corporation to join that lives in a hole, wasn’t that big of a leap.

NPC null is fun, but nothing beats not having local and random people to “harass” when you have a connection to their system.

The one thing that’s a bit harder for wormholes, is getting your ships in them.

Not only did I join a new corporation, I also got a bit more work on my plate IRL which means that I can’t just log in during the day anymore like I’ve done in the past.

I’ve spent the past couple of days waiting for a good connection so I could bring in ships, because I was stuck using a Hound, which got blown up when I was trying to tackle a Drake that was obvious bait.

So today there was a connection close to Amarr a bit deeper down the chain, which meant that I could start flying in ships. One at a time. Yay, right?

In order to make it a bit more efficient for my time I just self destructed outside the citadel everytime so I got cloned back in Amarr. I bet the guys at the clone station must have had a little bet going on how long it would take before I popped back out. Thank god for wigs.

I now have a few of my own corpses in my hanger, since they were floating around the citadel and I did some cleanup, and I’m pretty sure one of them is in another corp member’s hangar. I don’t want to know what he’s going to do with it. We don’t want to go that path.

Anyhow, I’m back at it! And hopefully I’ll be able to update some more again.

Boom goes the ship

I lost one of my favorite ships in the whole game last Sunday, a Machariel. It’s one of my favorite ships because it’s the first one I fully mastered (by doing level 4’s in it shhh) and it’s just super pretty.

Luckily, I also killed a few ships so it kind of evens out.

One of the places I live in with one of my alts, well… my main actually, is NPC null. Stain even (I don’t know names that well but do remember this one, and I’m sure you guys will know better than me).

NPC null is one of the stepping stones into the other null secs, you have stations, there’s a bunch of corporations and alliances, and you don’t need standings to dock, which means you can just put yourself somewhere and be on your merry way, coming back if you need repairs etc. It’s handy and you don’t have those silly Null alliance politics going on. Or people telling you to dock when there’s a neut in local because there’s a bunch of neuts in local almost all the time.

Back to how I lost the ship though. Due to the benefits of null, from time to time other groups decide to come and take up some territory. This is now the case with a few Russian corporations, taking down towers of our allies etc. Sunday was one of those days in which two of our towers was going to be coming out of reinforcement. We made a defense fleet and went out to meet the attacking fleet.

It was fun, despite the fact that the other guys played a game with us, warping off to another ping when we landed, going back and forth etc. We always were able to catch a few stragglers.

Them doing this only meant one thing, they were stalling. Getting a few more people on field. We knew this, and despite knowing this, we didn’t run. Because this was content, and we were getting kills.

So when all of a sudden bubbles started popping up around us, we weren’t that surprised. Our FC kept himself cool, calling out targets etc etc. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to escape the bubbles on time. Despite our logi trying hard to save most of us, they couldn’t quite keep up.

I don’t mind, I had a good time and some good fights. The fact that we now have a few new neighbours only means one thing.

More good fights in the future 😉

Another night of pvp with bombers bar

As most of you who read my stuff on a more regular basis might know, I enjoy joining the occasional Bomber Bar fleet. Not only because of the fact that it gives me something to do, but also because I just love stealthy ops. I adore my bombers.

Yesterday, we (corp mate and I) didn’t have much action in our womrhole so we decided to join a Bomber’s Bar Wolf Pack operation. We met up a few jumps from Jita, and waited for a staging system in which we’d basically be doing a few bombing runs etc.

This system was 93PI-4, also known as Goonswarm Territory. We got a cyno bridge into it from high-sec and got started on getting ping spots etc.
I personally have nothing against the guys, but a lot of people have a “Grrr Goons” mentality that seems to fuel quite a bit of story on their part, which is nice.
Every game needs their “bad guys”, I for one don’t really care, as long as I can throw a bomb or two I’m happy.

The evening started of fairly well, we got our bombing pings, waited for an opportunity, and were given one when someone in the fleet sacrificed himself to get us kills.

De-cloaking when your squadron is called and firing your bomb along with 8 others is quite a sight. I was a bit entranced by it and instead of warping off immediately I stuck around a bit to see them blow up before warping off to a celestial and bouncing back.

Those first few waves gave us a few kills and became the start of an evening of staying around a gate, killing stragglers and getting a response fleet on our asses.

We were camping the gate, having a bubble on it. Killing people that got stuck in it. And one little Goon was quite persistent in trying to get to the next system. Coming back over and over again in her pod.
It was quite amusing to see a bunch of us de-cloak to kill the pod every single time. “The little Goon that tried” we actually voted on letting her through after the fourth time because, if you really want it that bad, we shouldn’t stop that.

After a while we heard that one of our hunters got us something, and we dropped on a Chimera, which was obviously bait. But no worries there, we got out safely after a few shots and started to go back to the staging system.

Turns out that us being gone for a while, gave them the perfect opportunity to muster a response fleet and get on the in gate. Meaning that half our fleet jumped into the staging system only to see a LOT of goons warping in on the gate. Most of them got out safely, and those of us on the other side waited for a cyno to be lit so we didn’t have to use the gate. Once we had eyes on the correct side again we decided to wait a bit longer and try for another few kills. Turns out that’s what they were waiting on, because the moment we de-cloaked, we had a Titan and a bunch of carriers on our asses. They brought in a Ragnarok.

Close enough to almost touch it

Close enough to almost touch it

It was a bit overkill but this was only the second time I’ve seen a Titan up close, and it was the first time in response to a fleet that I was in. So I was a bit proud of myself there. Despite it being mostly because of how well the BB FC did his job, but still.

Despite their camp on the gate we did still get a Vagabond, Cynabal and a bait Sigil.

So all in all it was a good night, I got kills and made it out alive, docking back up in Jita with a smile on my face.

I love Bomber’s Bar for bringing us content like that.

W-space is agreeing with me

Wormhole life is agreeing with me. Not only am I getting better at scanning, and I’m also finding new things to do.

The other day we had a slight problem with one of that day’s neighbours. Well, not really a problem, more like the fact that we were too scared to move.

We had a C2 exit into our own hole, and turns out that this C2 was occupied by none other than Wingspan.

I have all the respect for these guys, I have read Chance’s guide at least three times already and even thought about joining at one point, but I never did. Because I tend to push things towards the future saying “One day” too often.

Anyhow, seeing that there’s 3 of us, and about 500 of them. What with them being used to wormholes, being in bombers and what not, we decided to just leave sites alone and go out for a little roam.

Our high sec static was really close to Null so we went to Syndicate. I went to Poitot for the first time ever, did you know. That Poitot is the only named system in Syndicate?

Despite there being only three of us in fleet and on TeamSpeak, I heard that sentence a few times.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to catch much on our little roam. As is null life, most people dock when they see neutrals. And the few targets that we could have had, well they would have kicked our asses. We didn’t really want to attack someone in a battleship with just an interceptor and two bombers.

On our way back we noticed someone doing data and relic sites. I still had probes on my bomber, so in the system over, I scanned down the only cosmic signature. It was a relic, and we decided that I would stay there cloaked, while the two others would both wait in another system.

A few minutes later I see a Helios on scan. He warped to the site and warped off again, only to come back to the bookmark.

I guess he was checking if the only other person in system was doing the site. I wasn’t.

Little did he know that I was there, cloaked up, waiting for him to do just that. As soon as he warped on top of our bookmark I told our interceptor to jump in system and warp to the bookmark.

A few seconds later the Helios was scrammed. I guess he must not have thought an interceptor on D-scan would hurt him, seeing that he didn’t see any probes. How wrong he was.

We killed him as soon as the third of our little party got in on the kill. A few seconds later our interceptor pilot was laughing his ass off.

This little Helios, was carrying a nice little reward. OP success. A huge success seeing as this was our first roam ever and we figured that we would either die or not get any good kills.

The loot is currently being sold in Jita and the ISK from it will be put into our new, budding SRP program.

Like I said, wormhole life is starting to agree with me.

First day in our hole

Two nights ago (Thursday on Friday), we officially moved into our own little wormhole. It took a while to anchor and online the tower, to set up the guns etc, but we finished around 2am. So all in all, a good night.

So yesterday was our official first day in our own little hole in space, our own little C2. It was a good day, a fun day, and content was had.

Not only, did we get our first official Corporation kills in the hole, we laughed a bit, and we made some ISK doing sites.

My little PvE Tengu

My little PvE Tengu, she’s a beast

I’m not sure if we’re going to top yesterday, I’m pretty sure we hit a peak there somewhere. That was one of the jokes that was made on TeamSpeak.

It started out, when logging in, with seeing a little Cheetah on scan. Nothing special, I tried tracking him down and failed there. When I was checking out one of our statics I noticed him warping back to the wormhole and off he went.

That could have been our first target, but alas, that didn’t happen. A few minutes later I noticed a Venture on scan. The same guy, had reshipped to a Venture, he was coming to mine our gas! Targets!

I told my friend and we were getting ready, I’m 90% sure that he wasn’t checking out D-scan because he must have seen us reship into a bomber etc (Literally only cloaky ship I got in there atm that isn’t a scanner)

I tracked him to a gas site and I was slowlboating my way to him cloaked. However, my friend couldn’t curb his enthusiasm and he warped to me, in his Heretic, while I was still 40km off the venture. The plan was for me the scram him, so we could also catch his pod with the bubbler. Unfortunately, he uncloaked me and I guess the guy was paying a bit attention because warped off into the sunset, never to be seen again. We miserably failed on scoring our first target. I will not let him down for this.

Half an hour later, while we were scanning down our sites, I suddenly noticed an Astero on scan. This guy didn’t rename his ship to something else so I could check out his Zkillboard, he already lost an Astero once, maybe we could let him lose another one.

Queue me training to D-scan his position, only to realize he was in a signature that we hadn’t scanned down since it arrived about 5 minute earlier. Good job on us there.

My friend took out his combat probes, and well, the Astero wasn’t paying attention to d-scan because he could pin him down. We warped in our cloakies to the site, and 26km from the Astero….

My friend de-cloaked due to one of the collideable objects in the site. The Astero noticed us, and warped off. Talk about anti-climax right?

Again, will not let him live that one down.

As you can imagine, I thought that would be it, the Astero wouldn’t come back. I was wrong. Imagine my surprise when 10 minutes later the same guy popped up on D-scan. He was in a relic site, and this time, we did have it scanned down.

I warped to the site, stayed away from the collideable objects and when I was 20clicks off, I de-cloaked, scrammed him, and my friend de-cloaked his ship and then warped in his Herritic.

Turns out, bombers aren’t that good to kill frigates. It took us ages, but, we got him, and the bubble made sure his pod didn’t escape.

I’m 99% sure that if he took out his drones, he could have killed both our bombers. Those things had no tank. But I’m also pretty sure that he panicked and just wanted to try and get away from us.

First kill! Yay us!

We had a static not far from Jita, which we wanted to use to bring in some more ships. And while my friend activated the hole on his Occator, he had travel control happen to him, and after that a static close.

I warped to the hole to see if it was still there, it wasn’t. There was however, a Heron, which either just got in, or wanted to go back to high sec and had the wormhole collapse right in front of him.

I don’t think he saw it coming, he definitely didn’t see me coming. I scrammed him, told him I’d get him home and then let our newest hole-mate warp in on his drake to get in on the kill.

Turns out the pod was worth about 200m. In a 41m Heron, that was an odd choice.

But we got a few kills out of it, I’m super happy with this move, and definitely looking forward to what else might happen.

My first ever

Yesterday was a good day and a bad day. Bad, since I lost another ship. My fourth, well fifth, since moving to null. Which, I guess isn’t all that much if you look at it.

Good, because I had my first ever solo kill. Yay! And it was a bit of an accidental one too.

I’m building up a little moon goo empire in Null, meaning that currently I have 6 towers working for me. Which is nice since it’s some sort of passive income generation like PI. Only thing I need to do is make sure that there’s no people stealing it, and that it’s fueled/emptied on a monthly basis.

I currently try it on a bi-weekly basis because I can. And means just a little less ISK in the Occator.

So, while getting my monthly supply of fuel, I was scouting for my hauler and saw a Helios at 10km from the gate. I figured that he would warp off but that did not happen, so I locked the Helios, burned towards him and started shooting. I can only guess that they were AFK, I didn’t even have a scram fitted. But I don’t care, I got a kill! Also got the pod but that one was worthless.

About 10 minutes before I had gotten the pod of someone whose ship was just destroyed by someone in the alliance. So another lucky kill there.

After the fuel run I was asked to join on a quick little roam. I was planning on going to bed early, but, that didn’t really happen.

So I reshipped to my Cynabal Mark II and went on my way to the wormhole we were going to use to get to a more target rich environment.

It started of nicely with two Cerberus, a Vexor and Caracal kills. When we did that and jumped around the systems some more they decided to try and stop us, getting together a little 12 man fleet. We jumped on an Armageddon but when going to the next system they were waiting on us. There were only 6 of us so we couldn’t handle that…yet.

We went back to our own system, called in some more people and decided to see if we could get them to make a fleet to stop us again. On paper we would do pretty well, but unfortunately one of our logi pilots was pretty new at doing what he was supposed to do and was out of rep range for most of us when the fight started. Partly due to miscommunication and just not paying enough attention.

Suffice to say that I lost Cynabal Mark II. But not to worry, Mark III is ready for action.

I won the ISK war last night, killing more than I lost, so I’m happy.

Lost a ship

I lost a Cynabal the other day.

We had a wormhole close to home, that led us all the way out to Venal. So we decided to go roam over there, find us some targets. The system we came in at was currently experiencing an incursion. So, there were incursion rats here. Remember this, this will be important later on in the story.

There were about 13 of us, Cynabals, Vexor Navy Issue, Sabre, etc. So we were a small group, out looking for targets.

Going from Venal to Deklein we came into Goonswarm territory and we killed a few Goons. Ishtars were killed, capsules were destroyed. All in all, we did okay.

It was about time to go back home, it was starting to get late and turns out that near our home system someone had undocked his Nightmare. So we wanted to go kill him. Onwards, back to the wormhole!

Now, as you may, or may not know. Incursion rats have warp scramblers. I did not know this, neither did some of my fleet mates. So as we were chugging back towards the wormhole some of us went faster than others. I was one of them.

While being at the front of the fleet is nice for catching things, it’s not nice when you get caught. So imagine my surprise when I suddenly see a warp scrambler lighting up my UI. And slowly, but surely, my shields were dropping. Meanwhile I heard someone on TS say that they died to the rats.

In the end, 4 of us died to rats. None of us got killed by players, and yet some of us had to return in a capsule. This because we didn’t stick together in the end and the rats were able to pick us off.

I learned a valuable lesson yesterday: “Don’t be at the front”

I lost a ship I was having fun with, but I still have 5 others in my hangar. The only real shame is that I lost the killmarks. Guess I’ll just need to go make a few new ones.

At least the Nightmare died too. Although it wasn’t as shiny as we hoped.
